Meredith DeCarlo, who just turned 5, qualified in Crescent's last race of the season at Sugar Mountain, NC on Feb. 20-21. The points that she and all the other female and male racers earned this weekend and during the season helped the CSSC race team place 2nd overall in the Eastern Division.
Four female racers participated in the final race. On Saturday, Lynn Wise placed 2nd in flight 9, after hiking up to get a missed gate. A four-gate flush confused other racers, who were disqualified. Honorable mention goes to Karen DeCarlo, who brought both young daughters to race and was a gatekeeper on Sunday.
Of the male racers who participated, Pat Dwyer, flight 1 pacesetter placed first. On Sunday, Pat continued his medal performance with a 2nd place in Giant Slalom. In flight 2, Greg Brentrup placed 2nd on Saturday, when Jay Seifert took 2nd place in flight 5. The Kleins joined the team on Sunday, racing in flight 2. Cooper placed 1st, while Martin placed 3rd. John Gardner placed 3rd in flight 7 on Sunday, while Tristen George placed 2nd in flight 8 and Snowboarder Zack Curfman placed 1st in flight 9.
Special thanks are extended to those who were gatekeepers, especially to Chris DeCarlo, who volunteered to gatekeep for an injured teammate.
