Crescent Ski Council May President's Letter

May 2022

You really should be upset if you did not attend the Spring Convention! Everyone had a great time at the events! The Early Bird Party at the Whiskey Beach Bar and Grill was a lot of fun. We changed things up a bit during the Friday evening Vendor Trade show by having the representatives for Steamboat and Jackson Hole present their trip roll-outs so that everyone in attendance could participate in receiving this information. The remaining vendors also gave 10 minute presentations in lieu of the usual “egg timers” (3 minute presentations) held during the Trips meeting. Meanwhile, all six (6) vendors were set up on the opposite side of the ballroom and engaged in conversations all evening. Saturday’s morning fun run and the Beach Olympics were enjoyed by many and Diane Brown did a fantastic job organizing the Beach Olympics. Thank you to all those who helped her with this fun event. The beautiful decorations, fun music, and interesting roaring 20’s outfits/costumes led to a very fun night! A HUGE thank you to the Conventions Chair, Spring Conventions Coordinator, Vendor Coordinator, committee members and to Faith and the Coastal Ski & Outing Club for all their work in making the Spring Convention 2022 a great success!

This update does not include updates from each Officer and Committee Chair, as their reports were just provided for the Spring BOD meeting. Each Club representative attending the BOD meeting should bring these reports to their clubs.

Here is a piece of club news I feel is worthy of sharing. Teresa Bowers, a member of the Spartanburg Ski and Outing Club (SSOC) will be spending a majority of 2022 in Poland concentrating on Ukrainian refugee relief. She has already been there and will be going back in the near future. Teresa is a physician (using those skills) and is also doing charity work. Many of us may know Teresa from the Steamboat trips or conventions, but her plans for 2022 and maybe beyond are unknown at this time. She does the SSOC and therefore our council proud. Please wish her well and keep her, the refugees, and Ukraine in your thoughts and prayers.

During their meeting Sunday April 24, the Board of Directors (BOD) elected officers for the 2022/23 season. The new officers who begin their terms June 1 are:

President: Mary Anne Koltowich (Knoxville)
Vice P: Michelle Shuford (Palmetto)
Secretary: LynnWise(Charlotte)
Treasurer: Ellen Cortright (Palmetto)

Please be sure to welcome and congratulate these Officers. Mary Anne and I have begun measures to ease her transition into the President’s role. This will be my last President’s Update as Mary Anne will resume writing the Updates starting with the June publication.

I want to thank the majority of you for the support and encouragement you’ve given me during the 4 years I’ve been President of Crescent Ski Council. While COVID certainly provided unexpected challenges, I believe the Executive Committee (ExComm) together worked diligently while keeping the safety of everyone a priority. I strived to represent Crescent in a professional manner, including making decisions and setting goals based on our existing Bylaws and Policies/Procedures. I hope you feel I’ve helped to make a difference to a Council that has been one of the best in the country.
