Hey Charlotte Ski and Snowboard Club Members (both active and inactive). This is my first Presidents Letter to the Club, and I wanted to reach out to everyone. I come to the President’s position after over 20 years as a Club Member (1982 to 1990, 1998 (Aspen Snowmass Trip) and 2011 to present). I was previously the Trip Chair and before that a trip leader working with Denver Board. I am also a former Crescent Ski Council Vice President (2016) and past member of the Crescent Trip bid group. Many of the improvements in our Club’s Trip Program came from my association with the Crescent Ski Council.
So first, the Club Meeting that was previously scheduled for Sugar Creek Brewery on Monday evening has been cancelled. The meeting was cancelled by Sugar Creek Brewery because of a conflict with one of their activities. This Club Meeting has been rescheduled to Wednesday, June 22nd at Dilworth Neighborhood Grill off Morehead Street from 6:30 to 8:30pm meeting downstairs in the banquet room. Parking is available across the street in the Parking Deck.
This is going to be a fun meeting with a picture slide show from this year’s ski trips that will live stream. We are also having a taco bar for refreshments. There will be no formal presentation but an informal meet and greet. Tables will be set up around the room for Trips, Events, Racing, and Membership where you can discuss upcoming events, activities, and trips with Trip Leaders and Committee Chairs. After this meeting, we will be taking the normal break over July and August and meet back in September. Club events and activities will still be going on during this time, but we will not have a formal Club Meeting. Your Board of Directors meet year-round, so our work doesn’t stop.
Your Club Membership dues are now due (June 1st). This was changed by a Board recommendation and member vote to bring our membership year in line with our business year and reduce the workload on the club accounting. You are required to be a current Club Member to participate in our Club’s trips and many of our events and activities.
Speaking about trips, we have the New River White Water Rafting Trip coming up August 19-20 at Ace Resorts in West Virginia. We will be in 5 cabins again for a fun weekend with a lot of activities available. Jace Gates is the trip leader and I believe he has 2 cabins available so go on the website and reserve your spot! Carpooling options will be available.
Our Western Ski Trips for 2023 opened for registration on June 1st going to Winter Park (Jan 28 to Feb 4) with 24 of 68 spaces currently sold; Steamboat (Feb 4-11) with 50 of 92 spaces currently sold; Palisades Tahoe (Feb 26 to Mar 5) with 31 of 64 spaces currently sold; and Banff (Mar 11-18) with 40 of 76 spaces currently sold. This has been a very successful trip rollout for our new Trip Chair (Jace Gates and his Trip Leaders). Trip flyers and trip registration preview links are available on our website. We expect most of these trips will be on a waitlist before August.
As a current member in good standing with CSSC, you are invited to go on Crescent Ski Council Trips. The Crescent Steamboat Ski Improvement Trip (Dec 3-10, 2022) opens for registration this week on Wednesday, June 15th at 12 noon! An early bird discount is offered to the first 70 registrations. The value of this trip is in the 5 full day ski instruction package. Want to improve your skiing? This trip is for you! Signup at: www.sportsamerica.com/csctrips
The other Crescent Ski Trip is to Jackson Hole, WY (Jan 14-21, 2023) and it opens for signup on July 1st. Jace Gates and I will be the Charlotte Crescent Reps for this trip. Please contact one of us for more trip information. Trip links are also listed on our trips page of our website. The Tour Company hosting this trip is Ski Group. They are currently behind in getting the online trip registration out so stay tuned for more trip information as we get closer to the end of the month.
I’m looking forward to being your Club President this year and my ear is always available for your questions and ideas. I will be working with the committees to offer as many fun activities to our members as possible. I will also be working on running a local weekend trip to Beech Mountain and a regional weekend trip to Snowshoe. For those of you that bought an Ikon Pass, it is good at Snowshoe all season.
Here’s to your good health and fun times this Summer. I hope to see you at our June Club Meeting on Wednesday, June 22nd at Dilworth Neighborhood Grill.
Tom Grayson, Club President
