From the President
It’s been a busy year, and we have seen lots of great stuff happening in our club — awesome trips with more people than ever attending, a successful Warren Miller movie screening, updated website and social media channels, continuing success with our race team, and fun monthly membership meetings at our new venue Brewers at 4001-A Yancey. Please read on and make sure to attend elections on March 11. See you on the slopes!

Morgan Mayer, President

Election time! Our bylaws require annual election for the four board officer positions of president, vice president, treasurer and secretary. Please join us as our regular club meeting Feb. 11 for nominations (Monday, Feb. 11, 7-9 pm at Brewers at 4001-A Yancey, in Charlotte), and also make sure to be at the Special Membership Meeting March 11 to vote (Monday, March 11, 7-9 pm at the same location).

Trip News

The Big Sky trip departed February 2nd for a week of fun with 185 people, and lodging in five different locations from a room at the Huntley Lodge to a 4 bedroom Penthouse at the Summit. The conditions are great and snow is forecast almost every day.

The Crested Butte trip is currently full with 41 people and three single supplements. We have one male single on the wait list. If we get three more people to sign up for the wait list, we will try to locate lodging. If you are a member of the Club and are going to be in Crested Butte Feb 23 to Mar 2, please contact us for Meet and Greet information. You can also tag onto our discount lift ticket prices for the week (need to set up by Feb 15th).

2020 Trips

Online trip registration begins on May 1st for Aspen Snowmass and Steamboat. The Snowshoe Trip is a manual registration that will be available starting at the May Club Meeting.

Aspen Snowmass is one of our most popular trips and will sell out quickly. We only have 150 spots for this trip with 130 at Top of the Village Condos and 20 at the Stonebridge Inn. Trip dates are Feb 1 - 8, 2020. What can you say about Aspen? It has it all and is ranked annually as one of the Top Ski Resorts in the World.

The Steamboat Trip is our return to March ski trips (Feb 29 to March 7)! It will also be one of our most economical trips at a very good value! We are staying at The Lodge at Steamboat — This is where the Crescent Ski Council has had lodging for their December Ski/Ride/Race Camp for the past several years. Come join us in Steamboat! It has been a long time since we have gone there as a Club.

The Snowshoe Trip will be the 2nd weekend in January. We are cutting our base trip to two nights (Friday and Saturday) and will be staying again in the Allegheny Springs Lodge in Studio, one bdrm den plus condos, two bdrm den condos, and three bedroom condos. People who want to add an additional night can do so either on the front end or back end (Thursday or Sunday nights). However, the whole condo has to be on the same schedule and we need early booking to secure your lodging. The two night weekend format will lower the price of the trip and may work best with most people’s work schedules. We will have our party as usual along with Meet and Greets during the stay. We will be partnering with Sun and Ski Sports on this trip and they will be offering great deals and discounts, along with help in promoting this trip!

We offer an early bird trip signup of $100 trip deposit to hold your spot on any of our trips! Your next trip payment will not be due until August 1st, and then October 1st with the trip balance due on December 1st.

Come to our February Club Meeting for more details!

Race Team News

We had a great turnout last weekend at Appalachian, and took first place on Saturday! We continue to have new racers qualify, and established racers continue to improve. We have great momentum and continue to rise in the standings! Our next race is this upcoming weekend at Beech Mountain. Come join the team for fun and cheer us on, and get discounted lift tickets while you’re at it! Email charlotteracedirector@gmail.com (by Wednesday) to sign up.

Also, to be eligible to qualify to race in the Crescent Cup at Snowshoe on March 9th, a racer must complete one timed run on each of two days of racing. Racers not listed still have two weekends to establish eligibility. Don’t miss out on our season finals, there’s still time to qualify!

The club has a new LinkedIn page, and we need club members and friends to check it out and follow us. We hope for this new page to help attract more and more professionals in the area, some new to the area who haven’t yet heard of the club.

We have 1,308 people following the club Facebook page and 2,352 people following the club Meetup page. We encourage club members to sign up for both of these pages if you have not already done so. We encourage new members to join us on the Publicity Committee and get involved with the club to grow membership and meet new friends.

Join us Friday, March 8 for a club happy hour at the Olde Mecklenburg Brewery on 4150 Yancey Road in Charlotte. Festivities kick off at 6:30 pm. If the weather is nice, we will gather in the Biergarten.
