Trip News

2018/2019 Trip Summary - The Trip Committee wishes to thank everyone for this year's excellent participation in our Regional and Western Trips! We moved this year's Snowshoe Trip to the second week of January 2019. We had 28 trip participants including two children who had a great time taking full day lessons. For the January 2020 trip, our main nights will be Friday and Saturday nights with an optional Thursday night stay (all people in the condo have to be on same nights stay). This is our only Regional Trip and our only short (three-day) trip. It is priced at our cost to offer to our membership at the best price possible. The signup deadline for this trip will be November 30th, 2019.

Our club trip to Big Sky was a tremendous success with plenty of snow to play in. We took 185 guests staying in five different properties on the mountain. This was the largest trip in club history!

Our Club Trip to Crested Butte is wrapping up this week with those folks returning on Saturday, March 9th, 2019. 42 people went on that trip and from all accounts they are having a great time with plenty of snow and great conditions!

We also had 15 Club Members go on the Crescent Ski Council Steamboat Camp in December 2018 (this trip offers five full days of lessons as part of the ground package) and two members went on the Crescent Crested Butte Trip in mid January. All in all, we had 272 people go on trips this season.

2019/2020 Trips - Next season Club Trips will roll out for Early Bird Registration on May 1st with $100 trip deposit holding your spot. The Aspen/ Snowmass Trip will sell out quickly with lodging at Top of the Village in deluxe condos and the Stonebridge Inn in deluxe hotel rooms. Full trip options and pricing are currently being worked out and trip flyers will be coming soon.

Race Team News

The 2018-2019 race team grew to its largest size this season in at least three plus years. We are so excited to have so many new team members from age 6 to more than 60. More importantly, these teammates are now great friends and a vital part of the team’s success! The regular season completed Feb. 23-24, 2019 at Sugar Mountain. Conditions weren’t the best, but we did have fun at our team dinner on Saturday night! Our Saturday night dinners were a great success this year, sometimes with nearly 20 members attending.

Our final season ending race will take place at Snowshoe/Silver Creek Thursday-Saturday March 7-10th.

We’d like to thank everyone that joined this year....you made the season more enjoyable! For those that might like to give racing a try next year, feel free to reach out to Dana or Kevin Cuddihy charlotteracedirector@gmail.com at any time and we can tell you all about it.....and if you’re a ski club member and will be at Snowshoe/Silver Creek during our races, stop on by and cheer us on!

College Recruiting - The Charlotte Ski and Snowboard Club will begin marketing across Charlotte college campuses this Spring. At public schools, we will be setting up booths on campus allowing us to speak with students regarding club activities, along with the race team qualifications and memberships. At private schools, we will be running articles in school newspapers and magazines. If you have any interest in assisting with our onsite work at the colleges, we would love for you to join us! Please contact Carol Roach at communications.cssc@gmail.com for more information!

LinkedIn - The club has a new LinkedIn page, and we need club members and friends to check it out and follow us. We hope for this new page to help attract more and more professionals in the area, some new to the area who haven't yet heard of the club.

Facebook - We have 1,308 people following the club Facebook page and 2,352 people following the club Meetup page. We encourage club members to sign up for both of these pages if you have not already done so. We encourage new members to join us on the Publicity Committee and get involved with the club to grow membership and meet new friends.

Social Events

Club Happy Hour - We are hosting another fun happy hour on March 8 at the Old Mecklenburg Brewery, organized by Wayne McBrayer our Social Director. Wayne is leaving the club next month as he is moving to the coast. Please join us at the brewery from 6:30 to 8:30pm as we thank him for the great work he has done for the club and wish him well in his next adventure!

CSSC Hiking - This year, CSSC is kicking off a monthly hike, which will take place on the 2nd Saturday of the month and run from April – October 2019. This is a great way to stay active and in touch during warmer months. Each hike will average 7 – 12 miles. When possible, we will wrap up with dinner at a restaurant in the area of the trail. We have planned some great adventures on Panthertown Loop Hike, George’s State Park, Pilot Mountain and more!

We will post the hikes on our Events Calendar. Each hike requires an RSVP as space is limited. Club members are allowed to bring one guest to each hike. Details of the hike, along with carpooling information, will be included on the events calendar.

Our first hike, led by Pam Kain, has been scheduled for April 13, 2019 on the Panthertown Loop Trail. Our 8.5 mile hike will take us through five waterfalls and across two stunning overlooks. Following our hike, we will head to dinner at the Blind Mule in Lake Toxaway. More details are available on our club website. Registration is now open for the event. If any questions, please contact Pam Kain at pam23@ymail.com

Social Committee - The 2019 Social Committee has formed and we are putting together an exciting calendar for the upcoming year! Based on feedback from the club, we will be scheduling activities throughout Spring, Summer and Fall that allow club members to network and socialize year round. These new activities will include monthly hikes, movie nights, kayaking trips, hockey games, bicycling events and so much more! The Social Committee will be introducing these events at our March 11 club meeting and begin posting these in the events section of our website over the next month. All events are open to club members and one guest. Please watch the calendar as we begin posting events – we hope to see you there!
