Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the mission of the Charlotte Ski and Snowboard Club?

Our club provides opportunities for skiers and snowboarders to connect, race, enjoy trips, and stay active outdoors together.

When was the club founded?

The club was founded in 1963 and was originally known as the Charlotte Ski Bees. Our club has been around for a full generation, and with your involvement, we’ll be around for a few more!

Who manages the club?

We are a 501(c)(7) nonprofit organization, so our club is managed by a volunteer team of board members (club officers) and committee chairs. Visit our Board Members page for a current list of volunteers. Members can log in to the Member Portal to download our Handbook and Bylaws.

Who can join?

Families, couples, and singles of all ages are all welcome to join the Charlotte Ski and Snowboard Club! We have members from several continents and every stage of life, from 7 to 75 years old. Of course, most of our members live in and around Charlotte, North Carolina.

How much does it cost to become a member?

An annual membership is only $30 for a single adult, $7.50 for juniors (ages 12-20), or $50 for a family. Race team membership levels vary depending on your age and the number of family members joining. Visit our Join Now page for more details.

What are the benefits of being a member?

  • Western ski trips at great rates with expert trip planning
  • Access to Crescent Ski Council and National Ski Council Federation trips
  • Local day trips to North Carolina ski resorts and regional weekend trips
  • Recreational events, from biking and hiking to whitewater rafting and kayaking
  • Club social events including a holiday party and summer lake party
  • Ski and snowboard racing with the Crescent Ski Council race program
  • Exclusive rates on Ikon and Epic Passes
  • Deals on gear at local ski shops and discounted services from club sponsors
  • Meeting other people who love snow sports

How many ski trips do you offer each season?

The club offers four Western trips each year. As a member, you also have access to 50+ trips from our sister organizations, the Crescent Ski Council (CSC) and National Ski Council Federation (NSCF). Race team members can participate in race training and weekend competitions at local resorts only a couple of hours from Charlotte as well.

Do I have to be an experienced skier or snowboarder to join your race team?

If you want to make the slopes more exciting and enjoy friendly competition, there’s a spot for you on our team! We welcome all experience levels and ages. If you're a new racer or haven’t raced in two years, you’ll need to qualify to show you can complete the course in a reasonable amount of time. After you qualify, you can race and earn points for the team.

Can I attend an event to see if the club is a good fit before I join?

Yes, club meetings, happy hours, and Warren Miller film showings are always open to everyone. Our monthly happy hour and club meeting is generally the second Monday of every month at Sugar Creek Brewing from 5:30-8:00 pm; however, we take a summer break from meetings during June, July, and August. Visit our Upcoming Events page to RSVP and for more details.

Can members bring guests to events, races, and trips?

Members can bring one guest each to club socials, recreational events, and local day trips. Members must register in advance on the Upcoming Events page and include their guest’s name, phone number, and emergency contact information.

Western ski trips, Crescent Ski Council trips, National Ski Council Federation trips, and regional weekend trips where the club has arranged lodging are reserved for members only. Race events are open to race team members only; however, if we’ve organized a day trip on the same day as a race, members can bring one guest.

How do I become a member?

It’s easy! Fill out our short application on the Join Now page or register in-person while attending one of our club meetings.

How do I log in to the Member Portal section of the website?

The Member Portal section is where you can purchase Ikon or Epic passes at exclusive rates, search for club members, access private club information, and renew your membership. You also need to be logged in as a member to register for trips, races, and club events that aren’t open to the public.
