January Newsletter With Upcoming Events, Trips, and Races

January 01, 2024 2:20 PM | Anonymous

Winter Solstice was December 21st, so our favorite season is officially here! We ended 2023 with a fabulous holiday party and a Warren Miller movie. Come out to Sugar Creek Brewing on January 8th for a happy hour, club meeting, and dance class.

The Crescent Race Series starts this weekend at Sugar Mountain, and more races are scheduled in February. Club members can register to race (or free ski) with discounted lift tickets through our event links.

We’re excited about Colorado trips to Telluride, Aspen Snowmass, and Beaver Creek/Vail in January and February. A few spaces remain for the Heavenly Lake Tahoe trip departing March 16th, but only for a limited time. There’s plenty of snow at regional resorts in NC, TN, VA, and WV as well, so have a great time wherever you’re skiing or riding. I hope to see you on the slopes!

~ Tom Grayson, Club President

PS - Don't forget our club sponsors. They offer expert advice and are eager to assist with your clothing, equipment, and travel needs.

Food Drives

We are collecting canned goods for Cooperative Christian Ministry’s food relief programs at club meetings and local events. Thanks to your generous donations at our October, November, and December events, we dropped off 242 pounds of food last month! Help us donate even more in 2024, especially the following high-need items:

15 oz no salt added canned beans and vegetables
15 oz no sugar added canned fruit
5 oz canned tuna in water

Donate two items to boost your door prize odds with an extra ticket. Or better yet, bring four items, and you’ll receive two extra tickets!

Race With Us

Whether you’re new to skiing and snowboarding or an Olympic-caliber racer, we want you to join our race team! Most of our racers are average skiers who want to make the slopes more exciting, but our roster also includes former collegiate racers and ski instructors. There is no minimum commitment. Race once or compete every time, whatever fits your schedule.

The first race of the season is this weekend at Sugar Mountain, but registration closed on Sunday. Club members can register for discounted group lift tickets as racer or non-racer at Appalachian Ski Mountain (February 24th/25th), Sugar Mountain (February 10th/11th), and Beech Mountain (February 3rd/4th). Registration opens two weeks before each race and closes at 1:00 PM the Sunday before the event.
